If you're an F-droid user, you might have already installed Fennec (Firefox) v84.1.4 on your Android device. While there's no concrete information available about future plans for Firefox extension support on Android at the moment, Mozilla has revealed its focus on optimizing add-on performance in the coming months.

In fact, the upcoming months will see continued efforts from Mozilla to optimize add-on performance on mobile devices. This is the final step in enabling extension support for Firefox for Android users. Unfortunately, this means that Firefox for Android users are limited to installing only 18 supported extensions, and it appears these will be the only ones available for the foreseeable future.

According to Caitlin Neiman of Mozilla, who wrote about this milestone on the company's official blog, the last step was introducing options on the main add-ons repository website to install extensions directly. This development milestone was announced by Mozilla in January.

However, it's essential to note that not all extensions will work seamlessly as APIs are still being implemented and some may be designed specifically for desktop use. If you're a Firefox Nightly for Android user, you can install other extensions, but only after following a rather complicated process designed to make things challenging for the user.

For now, it seems we'll have to wait and see when or if Mozilla will expand its support for more extensions on Firefox for Android devices.
